Eco-friendly Philosophy
At Hotel Paral·lel, we’re committed not just to the well-being of our guests and visitors, but also to that of the planet as a whole. Each and every day, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment by embracing energy efficiency and offering services that conserve natural resources.
We’ve earned the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification, showcasing our commitment to Biosphere Sustainable Tourism, supported by Barcelona Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Barcelona City Hall. We’re also part of Barcelona + Sustainable, a network of over 1,000 organizations committed to environmental, social, and economic sustainability that collectively work to enhance the city’s respect for its inhabitants and its environment. This commitment is aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, through the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism +20.
Sustainability and smart building measures
Throughout our day-to-day operations, we embrace a plastic-free, paper-free and sharing philosophy, using the Smart TVs in the rooms to inform our guests. We strive to raise awareness of the responsible use of resources, such as water, by installing faucet aerators and implementing a voluntary towel-change policy. Moreover, we reduce the use of plastic by fitting soap dispensers in the bathrooms, thereby encouraging the more efficient use of resources.
Hotel Paral·lel uses a highly efficient domestic hot water production system, optimized using aerothermal technology and solar thermal energy, generating savings and enhancing eco-efficiency in water heating throughout the hotel.
Improving energy efficiency
Recently, the Hotel Paral·lel joined the program for Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Projects in Tourism Companies, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (C14.14I2) funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, with the support of the General Tourism Directorate of the Department of Business of the Catalan Government.
With this grant financed by the EU Next Generation fund (amounting to €453,820.92, with a total budget of €951,820.57), we have been able to carry out to significantly improve the building’s energy efficiency, increasing our energy grading from B-B to A–A.
The project at Hotel Paral·lel (File No. SEC041/22/000082) has focused on implementing measures both inside and outside the building, including:
- Updating climate-control equipment.
- Replacing gas boilers with domestic hot water production systems using aerothermal technology.
- Installing new solar thermal panels to support the domestic hot water production system.
- Improving the building envelope by replacing the exterior joinery.
- Updating storage systems, indoor units and control systems.
With all these improvements, we have achieved a considerable reduction in our CO₂ emissions, from 36.2 kg CO₂/m² per year to 23.4 kg CO₂/m² per year, reinforcing our commitment to energy efficiency and protecting the environment.
Sustainable mobility and local area
Our location at the heart of Barcelona, close to the key sights of Montjuïc, Las Ramblas and Port Vell, is ideal for getting around on foot. In addition, we offer our guests Runner’s Corner, with three recommended running routes starting from the hotel, promoting a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
